With a jaw dropping view and clients who were looking for something truly unique, the architects were approached to develop a singular home that represented the site, the context, and the owner’s personal style. Faced with daunting height restrictions the plan quickly developed around a central two story courtyard that would allow the architects to develop a multi-level home. This approach not only provides an internal focus to the residence but it also allows for the home to capture the unique light and air that this ocean front home possesses. Externally the home develops a layered wall approach, further emphasizing the surprise just inside the front door. Once through the entry court, one steps into an expanding volume with the courtyard opening to the sky and fountain below. The courtyard serves as the orientation point throughout the home with the majority of spaces drawing light from this open volume. After skirting by the central court, the amazing views beyond begin to unfold. A seascape reminiscent of the northern coast, stands outside the wall of glass and steel, and beckons the viewer to the crashing waves just beyond. This serene setting is reinforced with a subtle palette that is at once tactile and tranquil, adding to the context and goals of all involved.
