Located on arguably one of the most coveted spots within Emerald Bay, the remodel of this single-family residence was nothing short of spectacular. With a virtually unobstructed panoramic view of the Pacific, an emphasis on minimizing any interruptions to this expansive view was paramount, the goal really became how best to get the architecture out of the way and allow the postcard experience to unfold. With tight height restrictions, and view equity considerations, the home quickly developed around an impactful entry sequence that first opened the visitor to the sky above and then quickly revealed the Pacific beyond.
Once inside, the home expanded out to the view, but rather than just developing a simple open plan, it was decided that a series of interdependent spaces could be established. This allowed the public areas to borrow from the adjacent rooms but also permitted the development of purposeful spaces that were individually meaningful. This approach not only added depth to the layout but also imbued each space with a sense of intentionality and meaning. Downstairs the private areas of the home were established with a series of outdoor spaces that took full advantage of the cliff top setting. Here too the planning of individual spaces provided for more profound areas of use. While all the outdoor areas were open to the Pacific, each had a programmatic purpose be it sunbathing, intimate gathering, or a water filled experience. Upstairs a private suite was developed that allowed the homeowner, and guests, a secluded area for gathering, sleeping, and taking in the expansive views beyond.
